Printed 30- and 50-year ratings assume laboratory weathering, not repeated hail and 100-degree roof surface temperatures.

Do Solar Panels Need to Be Removed to Replace a Roof?
Yes. A proper roof replacement removes everything down to the deck, and a solar array is mounted through the roof surface with penetrations that must be re-flashed into the new roof. Roofing around panels leaves old underlayment and old penetrations in place, which is not a replacement, and it typically voids workmanship coverage on those areas.
