Preparation for a roof replacement with solar is mostly paperwork and a production baseline. Gather your solar agreement and equipment details, screenshot your monitoring output, confirm access, and clear the driveway. Everything else is our job.
Before the project

Locate your solar documents
Installation agreement, equipment list, warranty documents, and whether the system is owned, leased or on a PPA.

Screenshot your production
Capture the last 30 days of output from your monitoring app, ideally at the string or panel level. This is your baseline.

Confirm monitoring login
Make sure you can access the portal. Homeowners frequently cannot, and it matters at commissioning.

Note any existing issues
If a string has been underperforming for months, tell us now so it is on the record before we touch anything.

Check for lease or PPA notice requirements
Some agreements require notifying the provider before work on the array.
The week of
- Clear the driveway and move vehicles away from the house
- Remove or secure fragile items on walls and shelves; tear-off vibration knocks things down
- Plan for pets to be somewhere quiet, since the noise is significant
- Take down wind chimes, hanging plants and patio umbrellas near the roofline
- Cover items stored in the attic, since debris falls between decking boards
- Make sure we have access to the electrical panel and inverter location

Frequently asked questions
- Will I lose power during the project?
- Your home stays on utility power. What stops is solar production, along with any battery charging from solar, for the duration of the work.
- Where are the panels stored while the roof is replaced?
- Typically on site in a protected, staged location, or off site when the property does not allow safe staging. Either way they are labeled by position so the array goes back the way it came off.
- What if a panel is already damaged before you start?
- We photograph the array before removal precisely so pre-existing conditions are documented. If we find damage, we show you before we touch it.
- Do I need to be home?
- Not for the roofing work. We do ask that you be reachable on commissioning day in case we need monitoring portal access to verify production.
